Beatmaking Camp
$160
Ever heard people say that DJ's and laptop musicians aren't "real" musicians? Well we don't believe that at all and we want you to join us in learning to make beats just to see how musical and fun the process is. Beatmaking has come to dominate many forms of popular music over the last twenty years and is a very accessible artform with little equipment needed to get started. After a foundation it can become very complex and the sky's the limit in terms of creativity. In this camp, we will learn to use computers, ipad/tablets, and smartphones to create beats as well as analog drum machines. Software such as Ableton Live, Apple Logic, Garageband, Pro Tools and even smartphone apps will be covered as well as how to implement and create samples and use MIDI. We will also explore the history of beatmaking and how it has risen to prominence in hip hop, dance, pop, and even rock music. Learning to make beats requires a strong understanding of rhythm and subdivisions, syncopation, and feel. As a result, it can give fresh perspective not only to drummers, but all musicians on all instruments. We will dive into rhythmic theory and learn how to play on both the downbeat and in between the beats. It can inspire a mood or even spark an idea to get you writing a song. Come join us for a fun week of beeps, bloops, bangs, and 808s!

Improvisation Camp
$160
Ever wondered how to take a screaming solo over your favorite song jamming with a band? Or how to compose an incredible solo or melody over a piece of music? Or even jump in with a group of musicians you've never played with before and start playing with confidence? This all comes from the art of improvisation and while it can be complex and hard, it's easy to get started after you have a few foundational skills. Improvisation is the key to playing with other musicians with or without notated music as well as a strong catalyst for songwriting and composing. Come join us for our Improvisation Camp where we will learn the basics. We will cover bits of music theory to help us know why some notes work on a song and others don't, how scales and chord tones can help us shape a melodic idea and create a feeling or emotion in music, how rhythm can affect and change the groove and feeling of a melody, and the how sight reading differs but can help us with improvisation. We will also explore different genres that are based off of improvisation and how we can borrow them to implement into our own work. Any instrument is welcome to this camp, drum solos and violin solos are just as cool as guitar solos!

Make A Record Camp!
$160
Ever wondered how many big hits are made in musical meccas such as Los Angeles or Nashville? There are teams behind many of the songs we hear, working and collaborating to make an idea into a big finished product you love listening to. Come join us in the process with our Make a Record Series! The camp will be divided into three teams for the week, a songwriting/production team, an audio engineering/mixing team, and a session players (musicians) team. The songwriting/production team will learn to take an idea of a song or riff and expand on it for the week learning common, creative production techniques to flush it out into a song. The session players group will learn the songs put together by the production group and practice the art of playing in the studio. This includes learning to play to a click track, learning how to read chord charts, and how to play to the song. The audio engineering group will spend the week learning how to set up mics, track instruments and mix them in a DAW using the songs created and played by the other two groups. By the end of the week, all three groups will have put together one to three finished songs ready for distribution! *Note that this camp series will have age requirements as well as some skill requirements related to each specific team.
